Who is Miss B?

Welcome, I'm Miss B though many know me as Mama B or simply Betsy short for my name. I was born into what some may call Brujería, but to me, it was simply a way of life where spirituality flowed through everything we did. It was lighting a candle for a saint when help was needed, refreshing the altars on Sunday mornings, or doing spiritual work for day-to-day things. 

From a young age, I could hear the spiritual world. I could see beyond the veil and astral travel with ease.  I remember visiting the U.S. in spirit before I ever set foot here. My gifts were nurtured by the hands of women before me, my mother, my grandmothers, and the spirits that walked before me. My maternal abuelita taught me to speak with the plants, to listen to their energy and how to work with them. To this day, I still hear her voice guiding me when I prepare spiritual items. My paternal grandmother passed down the gift of divination her predictions have come to pass, even foretelling my family’s journey to the US.

Like many, I strayed from my path in my early years. But spiritual energy has a way of calling you home. In my late twenties, I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease that changed my life for 8 years. I couldn’t work, couldn’t leave the house and I had lost hope due to debilitating symptoms.  During this time, I reconnected with my spirits and rediscovered my gifts and with the help of spiritual energy and modern medicine I was able to heal myself and have continued living my life for the past 10 years without a trace of the Lyme. This was my first and most difficult spiritual awakening.  Since then, my gifts have further developed, and I’ve understood that my purpose here is to help others and share my knowledge.

People often ask me how they can learn what I do. The truth is, we all have access to guidance through our ancestors and spirits that walk with us when we simply connect with them. My practice doesn’t follow one specific tradition. It’s a blend of what I’ve been taught, what I’ve lived, and what the spirits continue to teach me. I simply call it Brujería or spiritual work. I don’t follow labels, I follow the teachings of what my spirits and ancestors continue to guide me in. 

To me, a Bruja/Witch is more than the stories Hollywood tells. She’s a healer, a wisdom keeper, a woman who works in harmony with the earth and connects to the spiritual realms. I dance under the moon, work with the energies of the plants and the earth, talk to spirits and direct universal energy to create change.

Everything I sell in the shop from oils to powders and items comes from my personal practice and a respectful relationship with the energies that I work with. If I haven’t received permission to sell and share from a particular saint, orisha, deity and spirit, I simply don’t. Nothing is taken without permission.

I’ve been making my own products for as long as I can remember, never trusting the mass-produced items sold in big botanicas. Around 2018 I decided to add some of my oils on Etsy to sell. I wasn’t expecting much but within a few days I made my first sale. I still remember my very first customer, Tammy. She took a chance on me when I had no reviews. She then messaged me to ask me about shipping, and we started talking and she shared her situation with me, and I offered to help her.  That was the first time I offered a spiritual service online and how things started.

Spirits always find a way to direct people to find me.  One time I was sitting at the salon and the lady next to me started telling me about her cheating husband without knowing who I am or even my name but as if I was a good friend of hers. We got to talking and then I was doing spiritual work to help her.  This is just one of many stories and how it's been my entire life.  

Though the internet has changed how we connect, I stay grounded in the old ways when everything was word of mouth.  You would visit the neighborhood brujas to talk about your problems and to get limpias (cleanses) or spiritual help.  We were friends and advisors to those who needed us. Now we have the internet which has been a blessing, but information also has gotten lost and expectations of what spiritual work is has become blurred.  I am still learning to navigate this online world.  I value one-on-one relationships with my clients. I don’t just want to do the work and not know what happened to you.  Times have changed, and yes, I do charge for my time and energy, but I keep my prices fair, because I believe spiritual help should be accessible to everyone. I have many clients that have been with me over the years. Sometimes they go missing over an extended period of time and I know that they are doing good and living their lives which is the goal, but they know that when they need me, I am here for them. I find that sometimes folks come to me for one particular issue and over time it develops into a lesson or guidance that they are needing.
